My Favorite
Becoming involved with art was the best thing that ever could have happened to me. With some pencils and a piece of paper, I could draw or paint all day without stopping or talking. I don't remember much of myself when I was little, but I remember I was always asking my mom for more papers and pastels. However, there never were enough drawing papers for me. Sometimes I would end up doodle on my father's newspapers, mother’s desk, school textbooks, and even neighbor's walls. After I finished my "masterpieces," I would sign my name, titling myself, “the greatest artist." You could say I wasn't getting much appreciation on my newfound canvases. But nothing could stop me; I knew I liked to draw.
Childhood
When I was about six or seven-year-old, my aunt discovered my natural art talent. She took me to the arts and craft class for children. Even though I was so young at the time, I still have a clear memory of how the teacher opened up a big window for me. I was so fascinated with the colors, lines, textures or even making handcrafts. I learned things pretty fast in this class, so I was always in the top one or two percent. It wasn’t even about comparison with other kids, I lust loved the joy in the moments of making "art" with my own hands and the feel and touch of the materials.

Attended Art School
With my parents support, I finally got in to the school of my dreams. Fu-Hein Art High School was the best art high school in the Taiwan. There, I met a lot of friends from all over the country who all had the same interest in Art. This school had very strict and intense classes; staying up late working on the projects were usual occurrences. I learned many different forms of art making, such as painting, sculpture, design, photography, handcraft, and screen-printing. I think I was really fortunate to be able to use many different types of media at a very young age. With extreme training and heavily completive exhibitions at school, I built up decent drawing skills and a good scene of design.

It's kind of funny how people see things differently from different stages of life. For example, when I was in the high school, I was always complaining about too much homework and hated rushing to meet the due days. However, now I do appreciated how much I learned from my high school and treasure those memories. What I remember the best from high school life were those late nights painting and working on sculptures. There are no words to describe the feelings I had while creating those pieces. This period of time at high school affected me deeply. I had not only found what I really loved to do, I also I gained a confidence in myself. That was the time I truly believed that I was intelligent and talented. Studying and creating art, not only made me appreciated myself, but also brought me spiritual fulfillment.

Study Abroad
After graduation from high school, I wanted to study abroad. I was dying to see a different side of the world; I wanted to experience different culture of life and also I was curious to know different people from different countries. There is no doubt that the United State is a big melting pot of different races and cultures; therefore, I decided to go to the land of opportunities.

The "Big" Step---The New World
July 31, 1995: With a big suitcase and some pencils, I took a Bowing 747 all the away across the Pacific Ocean. Finally, I arrived in San Jose, the capital of technology in California. I was feeling so excited yet scared at the same time. It was a huge change in my life; I had stepped out of the world I knew and jumped into a world of uncertainty. Being away from home and learning a new language were uneasy for me. However, I told myself to make sure to do my best and have fun, and there is nothing I can't overcome.

I always feel that I am a lucky girl. Therefore, my transition to the "New World" was as smooth as I had hoped. I was lucky to find a place to live, with a wonderful older couple. They not only gave me a great chance to improve my English skills, they provided a warm home and unconditional love while I was away from my family. They were incredibility patient and wonderful at heart. When I had a problem or needed a person to talk to, they would always be there for me. We always enjoyed long talks when we were together. Beyond the age and race boundary, we became really good friends. Now I have been living with them for six years. I have shelter in their love.

Digital Art
Another big transition in my life was getting into webpage design, digital graphics and animation. Fine art would always be my favorite, but while I had the chance I wanted to try different media, such as film, web and animation. I believe that life is about finding myself and having fun. Now with college over, and a new path to conquer just over the horizon, I am ready to take on whatever life's challenges lay ahead. With the support around me, I know I will do fine.
